Technical Support Intern

Position: Technical Support Intern

Department: Technical Support

Reports To: Technical Support Manager

Level: Non-Exempt

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide first level technical support. Use communication skills, knowledge, technology, information tools and exhibited credibility to drive customer cases/issues through to satisfactory completion. Be articulate and able to make decisions within guidelines. Assist customers with understanding of Industrial Ethernet configuration and control capabilities.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance to customers, ensuring that all inquiries are handled promptly and accurately
  • Demonstrate communication skills while interfacing with customers and all levels of the corporation in explaining cases, coordinating activities, providing status and resolving customer issues
  • Offer suggestions for set-up of control devices within an Industrial Ethernet robotics or control assembly application
  • Provide warranty information
  • Provide RMA verification for equipment returns from customer
  • Assist technical support case handling as required
  • Provide customer-based feedback to Marketing and Engineering on product development
  • Exhibit professional business demeanor combined with skilled technical aptitude
  • Experiment with new control networking capabilities such as sensor technology with IO-Link
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Windows administrator familiar with installing, maintaining and troubleshooting a variety of Windows operating systems, with a particular emphasis on working with device drivers and networking
  • Essential understanding of Control systems, such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric
  • Experience with PLC, HMI and Industrial Ethernet such as Ethernet/IP, PROFINET and Modbus
  • Experience setting up and debugging PC hardware
  • Computer networking experience
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with: Linux, UNIX, MS Windows, networking, and serial communications
  • Knowledge of Control Systems and Ethernet protocols
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Experience in technical services a plus
  • Good customer service skills, exhibiting credibility and professionalism
  • Experience in serial and TCP/IP data communications
  • Ability to successfully manage high volume activity and workflow
